Melbourne: TV personality Tania Zaetta has been cleared of allegations that she collected donations through an unregistered charity, ‘Peace for the Children’.
On Thursday, in the Southport Magistrates Court the Office of Fair Trading offered no evidence to 12 charges against the former Bollywood actress, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.
Peace for the Children had collected almost 29,000 dollars in donations between October 2010 and January last year.
In November, the charity was fined 50,000 dollars and it’s former co-director Grant Hilton 10,000 dollars after an investigation by the Office of Fair Trading.
Hilton acknowledged failing to register the charity but claimed it was merely an oversight.
The 42-year-old from this season’s ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ maintained that she was not involved in administrative matters.
Outside court her lawyer Chris Nyst said that Zaetta was “happy the madness (was) over”.
“She should never have been charged,” the Daily Telegraph quoted him as saying.
“All she did was give freely of her time to a charity and instead of praise she got criticism,” he added.
