New Delhi, Nov 25: Terming as "totally baseless,
unfounded and motivated" the charge that Dhaka was responsible
for the disturbances in Assam, bangladesh today said "it does
not and will not allow its territory to be used by any one to
carry out activities against another country".
Commenting on Union Minister C P Thakur's remarks blaming
Bangladesh for the ongoing violence in Assam, Bangladesh High
Commission here said "efforts of the Indian minister to malign
Bangladesh by alleging that it is involved in activities to
destabilise India is unfortunately not a new one".
"The remarks of Thakur are part of a sustained campaign
that is best avoided in the interests of maintaining friendly
and good neighbourly relations between Bangladesh and India,"
the high commission said in a release quoting Foreign Ministry
spokesman in Dhaka.
The spokesman emphasised that Bangladesh wanted friendly
relations with India and "is working to strengthen cooperation
with it in a number of areas."
He expressed the hope that Indian leaders would refrain
from making "irresponsible and biased statements that only
contribute to generating misunderstanding among the peoples of
the two countries and adversely affect the valued bilateral
relations."
