Five people including one Indian killed in Riyadh blast

Riyadh, Nov 09: At least five people, four Arabs and one Indian, were killed in the bombing which rocked a residential compound west of Riyadh at midnight, a senior Saudi official told at the site of the blast early today.

killed in the blast at the Al-Muhaya complex, the official
said, requesting anonymity.

The explosions wounded more than 100 people.

The midnight blasts came after gunmen broke into the upscale compound of about 200 villas and exchanged fire with security guards, a Saudi government official said.

An Interior Ministry official told the press the attack was by a suicide car bomber. He said 86 people were wounded and two killed, both security guards.

Diplomats and officials said most of the residents of the compound`s 200 villas were Lebanese. Some Saudis also live there, plus a few German, French and Italian families.

Officials at the King Khaled Specialist Hospital and the King Faisal Special Hospital & Research Center said the two hospitals received 38 wounded people.

Flames could be seen still burning at the compound several hours after the explosion. U.S. State Department spokeswoman Amanda Batt in Washington said no Americans were hurt.

Al-Arabiya Television showed shots of bloodied men and women being treated at hospitals.
