New Delhi: Television actor Karan Mehra, known for his role in the TV show ‘Virrudh’, is happy with the way his film career is shaping up, but admits star power does help in getting people to the theatres.
"It is true that star power does help in getting good opening for any film even though it would have flaws. It does sometimes become tough for newcomers to create a space. But this is the way the industry works," Karan, whose new film ‘Love Possible’ just hit theatres, told IANS on phone from Mumbai.
"We don`t have any stars in the film, so it will take time to grow," he added.
After ‘Love Possible’, Karan is looking forward to the release of Mahesh Bhatt`s ‘Blood Money’ and would soon be seen in Arup Dutta`s ‘Bloody Ishq’.
Karan started his career with small screen with popular teenage TV show ‘Remix’ and has since worked in shows like ‘Virrudh’, ‘Behenein’, ‘Surya - The Supercop’.
Last year, the actor was seen in a small role in ‘No One Killed Jessica’, while in 2010, Karan acted in short film ‘Amen’, based on gay rights activist Harish Iyer`s life. The film had garnered appreciation at various film festivals.
Luck plays a pivotal role in carving a niche for oneself in showbiz, said Karan.
"It is very difficult to carve a niche in the industry. While talent and hard work does matter, but luck also plays a very important role. Even star kids have to struggle to create their own identity in the industry," he said.
The young actor is in no hurry and said: "Till now the journey has been quite fruitful. My career is still in initial stages and I have a long way to go. It took more than 10 years for some of the well-known actors to carve a niche for themselves and I have just started."
Karan doesn`t want to restrict himself to any particular genre.
"I am actor and I am ready to entertain my audiences in all genres. I have done ads, television, films and theatre. There is a vast variety and I want to do good work," he said.
However, on the small screen, after playing Rajhans in investigative series ‘Surya - The Supercop’, he is returning as an anchor with an upcoming travel show.
