New Delhi: Ravichandran Ashwin, arguably the best spin-bowling talent currently available at India's disposal, is gunning for a special record during the series against West Indies.
Ashwin, who has picked up 176 wickets from 32 Test matches, can become the fastest to clinch 200 wickets in the current series.
With an average of 25.3, Ashwin has picked up wickets at an impressive rate and considering the inexperience of this West Indian squad, he might well be India's leading wicket taker at the end of the series.
The current record of fastest 200 wickets in Test cricket is held by Australia's Clarence Grimmett, who achieved the feat 36 Test matches.
Ashwin is set to play three more Tests against Jason Holder and Co., and will be hoping to take 24 wickets in the series to register his name in the history books.
Having claimed 31 wickets in the 4-match Test series against South Africa, there is no reason the 29-year-old off-break bowler cannot achieve this feat.
