UGC justifies in SC holding final year exams 'to protect students' future'

The UGC justified the revised guidelines issued on July 6 and said that it adequately takes into account the evolving situation of the COVID-19 pandemic It gives sufficient flexibility to universities/ institutions to conduct such examinations online, offline (pen and paper) or blended (online + offline) mode It provides for an examination through the special chance for students who ''or whatsoever the reason(s) may be'' are unable to appear for the exams conducted by a university/institution by end of Sept 2020

Respond on pleas against direction to hold final yr exam by Sep 30: UGC told

The plea has sought parity while referring that various other boards cancelled their remaining exams due to COVID-19 pandemic and declared results on the basis of past performance of students The plea alleged that authorities have ignored the plight of lakhs of students belonging to Bihar, Assam and NE states, and conducting online or offline exams in such places is not possible It has sought directions to the authorities to not conduct the final year examinations and to declare results on the basis of past performance or internal assessment of the students
