Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police arrested a man who sought favours from some Centre officials by claiming himself as the secretary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's brother.
As per the report, the accused Venkat Prasad, who runs an advertising agency, was arrested from Abids area of the city on Wednesday evening. According to the official, Venkat had met PM Modi's brother Prahlad Modi when he had visited the city earlier.
"After his meeting with the Prime Minister's brother, Venkat had started claiming himself as Prahlad Modi and made calls to few senior bureaucrats in Delhi seeking favours. He also fixed appointments with some other officers," the report claimed.
However, his cover was blown after an official raised suspicion on his claims and alerted the Hyderabad police.
The police official said that Prasad had put his name as the "secretary PMO Modi" on the Truecaller app and whenever he used to make calls to officials his name would get displayed as "Secretary PMO Modi".
A case of cheating and extortion under relevant sections of IPC was registered against the accused. Further probe is on.
