JNU rusticates Umar Khalid for one semester, slaps Rs 10,000 fine on Kanhaiya Kumar

New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru University on Monday rusticated Umar Khalid and imposed Rs 10,000 fine on JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar for pro-Afzal sloganeering on February 9 event.
JNU has imposed Rs 10,000 fine on Kanhaiya Kumar for violating disciplinary norms in connection with the February 9 event at the university campus.
Both Kanhaiya and Umar are PhD scholars at JNU or Jawaharlal Nehru University. Umar Khalid has also been fined Rs. 20,000.
Two other students who have also been rusticated along with Khalid are Mujeeb Gattoo and Anirban Bhattacharya. While Mujeeb Gattoo has been rusticated for 2 semesters, Anirban has been rusticated till July 15 and has been barred from pursuing any course in the university for next 5 years, JNU administration told PTI.
The university also prohibited student Ashutosh’s entry into the JNU hostel for one year and imposed Rs 20,000 fine on him.
Umar is accused of organising the controversial February 9 pro-Afzal event while Kanhaiya was accused of raising anti-national slogans during the event. All the three students, Kanhaiya, Umar and Anirban are currently out on bail.
According to PTI report, JNU administration finalised its decision regarding their involvement in a pro-Afzal Guru event.
