Poll candidate shot dead in Uttar Pradesh

A Panchayat poll candidate was shot dead by unidentified motorbike-borne assailants near Badanpur village in the district, police said on Friday.

Pratapgarh: A Panchayat poll candidate was shot dead by unidentified motorbike-borne assailants near Badanpur village in the district, police said on Friday.

Indramani Shukla (35), who is in the fray for the ongoing zilla panchayat elections, was shot dead late last night by the assailants who were waiting for him in an unlit area under Kotwali police station area as he was returning home in his car, they said.

Shukla, a lawyer by profession, was rushed to the district hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead, police said.

The local lawyers have demanded immediate arrest of the murderers.
