London:GYMNASTICS: USA lead the way in qualifying The U.S. women were atop the Olympic gymnastics standings, as expected, with little standing in their way — except themselves. More than the Russians, Romanians and Chinese, the biggest challenge for the gold medal may come from how they deal with world champion Jordyn Wieber losing out on the all-around event Sunday and how she lost it — bumped by her best friend on the very last routine. Click on the picture to read full story TENNIS: Novak Djokovic advances to next round Novak Djokovic waited out a 3½-hour rain delay Sunday, and when his Olympic match resumed, he paid a heavy price for losing the first two points. They cost him the opening set against Fabio Fognini of Italy. The interruption came at 7-all in a tiebreaker, and Djokovic knew he needed to come out of the delay with a fast start on Wimbledon`s grass. "I was thinking about those two points and the way I should play them," he said. "But of course this is a specific surface. Everything happens very fast." Once Djokovic fell behind, he quickly rallied and overtook Fognini 6-7 (7), 6-2, 6-2. (Agencies) Click on the picture to read full story FOOTBALL: Spain crash out of Olympics Spain are out of the men's football tournament having lost their second successive game, 1-0 to Honduras. A 7th minute goal by Jerry Bengtson helped Honduras beat their much fancied opponents Spain in the First Round of men's football 1-0. Earlier the Spainish side had lost to Japan 1-0. Spain would now face Morocco. Japan have qualifed to the next round with one more game remaining. Spain consisted of some big players like David de Gea, Jordi Alba, Juan Mata and Iker Muniain. The United States of America were in the lead at the second change over as Micheal Phelps had a brillant swim. The United States of America take silver and Russia the bronze. TENNIS: Somdev Devvarman crashes out India's wildcard entrant Somdev Devvarman crashed out of Olympic tennis after he lost his first round match of the men's singles to Finland's Jarko Nieminen in a rain affected encounter at the Wimbledon here Sunday. SWIMMING: Cameron van der Burgh wins with WR time Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa won gold in 100m breaststroke with a world record time of 58.46 secs. Nikolay Kovalev of Russia too kthe bronze medal. ARCHERY: South Korea win 7th straight Olympic archery gold South Korea won its seventh consecutive Olympic gold medal in the women`s team archery competition Sunday, beating China in a rainy final. Ki Bo-Bae shot the decisive nine-pointer to take the Koreans to 210 points, with the Chinese registering 209. Click on the picture to read full story BASKETBALL: US wins comfortably in Olympic opener Kevin Durant finished with 22 points as the United States powered home after a sluggish start in a 98-71 win over France today on the opening day of the men`s Olympic basketball tournament. The US team, loaded with NBA stars and a heavy favorite to defend its title, struggled early and was leading by only one point at the end of the first quarter. Neymar struck a well-placed right-foot shot into the left upper corner of the net in the 65th minute to break a deadlock as Brazil struggled to get near the Belarus goal despite controlling possession at Old Trafford. India had finished ninth. Tennis: French Open champion Maria Sharapova completes a 6-2 6-0 victory over Shahar Peer in one hour and five minutes. Tennis: The Indian men`s doubles pairs will have to wait before taking the tennis court at the Wimbledon as their first round match of the London Olympics were postponed due to rain here Sunday. Leander Paes and Vishnu Vardhan were set to take on Dutch pair Robin Hasse and Jean-Julien Rojer while Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna were pitted against Max Mirnyi and Alexander Bury of Belarus. Tennis: Germany's Julia Goerges Sunday upset World No. 2 Agnieszka Radwanska in first Olympics tennis match to be played indoors. Rain over Wimbledon caused the roof to be closed on Centre Court and Goerges, ranked 24th in the world, snatched victory 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-4 with an aggressive if sometimes erratic approach. Boxing: Jai Bhagwan storms into second round Indian boxer Jai Bhagwan produced a dominating performance to storm into the pre-quarterfinals of the lightweight (60kg) category in the Olympics, on Sunday. Table Tennis: Soumyajit Ghosh loses in second round Soumyajit Ghosh lost in the second round of London Olympics as he lost to HB Kim from DPR Korea. Ghosh who won his first round match against Gustavo Tsuboi of Brazil lost 11-9, 6-11, 5-11-9-11, 7-11 to DPR. Shooting: Heena Sidhu, Annu Raj Singh knocked out India’s Heena Sidhu and Annu Raj failed to make the finals of the 10m Air pistol event after finishing 12th and 23rd respectively. Heena scored 382 while Annu finished with a score of 378. Rower Sawarn Singh qualifies for the quarterfinals India`s Sawarn Singh Virk topped the repechage round of the single sculls event of rowing competition in the London Olympics on Sunday. Sawarn won the round in 7:00.49 to qualify for the quarterfinals. Indian women archery team knocked out The Indian women`s archery team was off target in crunch situations as it lost to Denmark by a point in a see-saw pre-quarterfinal battle at the Lord`s Cricket Ground on Sunday. The trio of world number one Deepika Kumari, Bombayla Devi and Chekrovolu Swuro lost 210-211 to the Danish team, comprising Louise Laursen, Maja Jager and Carina Christiansen.
