BCCI plans 'honourable exit' for Jagmohan Dalmiya with 'patron-in-chief' post

New Delhi: According to a report in the Times of India, a section within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants Jagmohan Dalmiya to step down as the board's president due to his ill-health.

By creating a new post of `patron-in-chief ', senior board officials want to give Dalmiya an 'honourable exit'.

The report further adds that an `influential decision maker' floated this idea and has found several backers within the board.

This `decision maker' even met the veteran cricket administrator and his son Abhishek recently at a hotel in Kolkata.

Abhishek however, informed the official that his father will be healthy and active in the coming days.

With board members unhappy with the speed of BCCI's decision making, the official later suggested the middle path to them.

“The top bosses and former BCCI presidents feel that Dalmiya should be respected for what he has done for the game. For that, he should be accommodated into the board as patron-in-chief. After all, Dalmiya himself was the one who insisted on creating such a post quite some time ago.

There is nothing against Dalmiya. And no one can remove him technically if he doesn't agree to vacate his post. He has to himself step aside. A lot will depend on how things pan out in the next working committee meeting,” a source was quotes as saying by TOI.
