GoM reviews security arrangements for Games

The Group of Ministers on Commonwealth Games today discussed the security arrangements for the mega sports event here next month and expressed happiness with the preparations.

New Delhi: The Group of Ministers on Commonwealth Games today discussed the security arrangements for the mega sports event here next month and expressed happiness with the preparations.
“The security arrangement was discussed with the (Delhi) Police Commissioner and we are quite happy with the security arrangement,” Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy, who is also the chairman of the GoM, told reporters.
All the venues would be handed over to the police for sanitisation for three days. “The lock-down period for all the venues will start from September 20,” he said. In a ‘lock-down’, the entire venue is completely sanitised by security agencies and is sealed after a thorough check of each room available. The seals will be taken off when the Games officials or players will enter.On delays, Reddy said, “I must say there was some delay but we have made up now. We are much more confident now today than we ever was.” When asked about the incomplete Vasant Kunj flats for the Games, he said, “The rooms required for technical persons are ready in Vasant Kunj now.” Tourism Minister Kumari Selja, Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit, Games Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi, Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar and other senior officials attended the meeting.“We reviewed the progress of the preparation and we are absolutely on track. We are in state of high readiness,” Chandrasekhar said after the meeting. PTI
