Kathmandu: Nepal and India have agreed to finalize the detailed project report (DPR) of the proposed Butwal-Gorakhpur cross-border transmission line prepared by a technical team representing both countries.

The India (JSC) meetings at the secretary and joint secretary levels held on Monday and Tuesday agreed to finalize the DPR of 400kVA power line after consulting with experts and stakeholders of the respective countries, reports the Kathmandu Post. It has been proposed that another joint technical team will be set up to study and suggest the funding modality for the construction of the cross-border transmission line.

Around 35 kilometers of the 130 kilometer-long transmission line falls in Nepali territory and the rest on the Indian side. The new transmission line is being installed as a backup to the Muzaffarpur-Dhalkebar transmission line to ensure uninterrupted power supply. Once constructed, the new transmission line will provide electricity to Bhairahawa, Butwal, Pokhara and Narayangadh in Nepal.

The Government of Nepal is also planning to issue an official statement on the recent guidelines on cross-border power trade after consultations with India.
