London: Lindsay Lohan, who recently hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’ in an attempt to kick-start her career comeback, has garnered mixed reviews from viewers and critics.
According to the New York Post, the 25-year-old actress stumbled through her lines on Saturday night even when she was clearly reading them off of cue cards.
Logan started off the show by joking about her struggles in her monologue.
“Everybody here believes in you. We wouldn’t have you back otherwise,” the Daily Telegraph quoted cast member Kristen Wiig as saying.
Wigg hugged Lohan, which then turned into a pat-down.
When Lohan asked if she was being searched, Wiig replied, “No, I’m a lesbian now.”
“Been there, done that,” Lohan said.
The Wall Street Journal, which reminded readers that “Lohan, when she’s on her game, is fully capable of delivering a solid comic performance,” said she had few standout moments in the episode.
The Journal singled out a parody of the ‘Real Housewives’ reality TV franchise featuring Disney princesses as one of the “couple of skits worth watching.”
Lohan had extended invitations to celebrity pals to join her on ‘Saturday Night Live’, according to TMZ.
‘Mad Men’ star John Hamm and former ‘SNL’ cast member Jimmy Fallon took her up on her offer and made appearances.
Their cameos prompted author and TV personality Toure to tweet.
“Lindsay Lohan hasn’t made me laugh yet. Can we still replace her with Jon Hamm?” Toure tweeted.
Singer Josh Groban strongly criticised the episode on Twitter.
“East coasters, what’s happening on #SNL? Should I keep practicing and working hard at what I do, or is that not necessary anymore?” he tweeted.
Sources close to Lohan told TMZ that she was proud of her hosting gig. Some last-minute changes were made to the episode like the dropping of a musical monologue in favour of Hamm’s and Fallon’s cameos, but the sources said Lohan felt she did the best she could do.
Despite the critical pans, Lohan’s ‘SNL’ scored the second-highest ratings of the show’s current season.
In a press release, NBC said the episode was number 1 for Saturday night shows among viewers aged 18-49.
