A recent event attended by B-town’s pretty lass Soha Ali Khan marked Ashish Jaiswal`s entry in the literary world. An Oxford graduate Ashish, who is currently pursuing his PhD in Business Education, has already drawn much appreciation for his simplistic use of language and depth of thought conveyed in his very first novel-True Dummy. Speaking to Tanu Talwar of Spicezee.com, the debutant novelist revealed his inspirations and spoke about his first book.
Tanu: How come you decided to write? What has been your inspiration?
Ashish:I always wanted to write. For me the biggest inspiration to start writing has been my life. Life is beautiful, and it has inspired me to give it my best to the world. I feel a lot needs to be told to the younger generation that is confused yet determined to achieve new heights and is extremely determined in their quest.
Tanu: Could you tell us a little about your book?
Ashish:My book is by the youth and for the youth. I really feel that every teenager should read this. It talks of the universal struggle; we all go through it during our younger years. The confusion, imagination and the challenges we struggle with. If ‘Harry Potter’ is for children then ‘True Dummy’ is for the youth. It is a story of two young guys ‘journey to achievement in a mystical backdrop. It talks of their inhibitions, desires and the dream to be someone.
Tanu: Are you working on any projects as of now?
Ashish:Well, I am writing but would not like to divulge about it just as yet.
Tanu: Are your books open to film adaptations?
Ashish:Why not? I feel that novels being adapted into films are a great way to get your work across to a larger audience. Look at ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, it has won many accolades and has got an Indian author international recognition. It’s a great way to promote literature.
Tanu: Your writing style is very simple and direct, has it been a deliberate attempt to write in such short clear terms?
Ashish: I feel that the toughest style of writing is to write something simply. I was told that nothing could be written simply. But I wanted to make my work concise, simple and yet be imaginative and meaningful.
Tanu: Whom do you drive your inspiration from as an author?
Ashish: There is no specific author. But I do admire authors like Paulo Coelho and others of the same genre.
