Manish Sisodia challenges BJP, Congress-ruled states to compete in education sector

New Delhi: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Wednesday challenged all BJP and Congress-led state governments to compete with the AAP government in the education sector.

Sisodia, who also holds the education portfolio, also challenged the BJP-ruled municipal corporations to draw a comparison between Delhi government schools and those run by the MCDs.

Talking to reporters here, he said he was happy that "education" was being discussed by politicians who keep talking about "shamshan and kabristan".

The challenge comes a day after Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta demanded that the AAP government present a "white paper" on the status of school education in the city.

Also, the Congress had last week challenged the Delhi government's claims of achievement in the education sector, saying it was a "myth".

The deputy chief minister said his challenge would ultimately benefit the city students.

"I challenge the MCDs and governments in other states to compete with the work done in the education sector by our government in Delhi. Let's start today and then compare after a year or two," he said.

The Delhi deputy CM alleged the only agenda of the Congress and the BJP was to "decide how many crores in bribe was to be taken for giving recognition to private schools and colleges or to lobby for land for private schools or how to pocket heavy commissions during admissions and funds meant for schemes like mid-day meal".

Government schools in BJP and Congress-ruled states were being shut down and private schools are mushrooming and their fee was increasing by the day, he alleged.

"All over the country, parents are frustrated over arbitrary fee hikes in private schools. There is no transparency in admissions under the economically weaker section category in private schools in any of the states," he claimed.
