Dragonflies can smile, too!

London, Sept 20: A British man has captured a smiling dragonfly on his camera phone. The British Dragonfly Society as a female Southern Hawker Aeshna cyanea has identified it. Its happy demeanour comes from the "frons" - the frontal area of an insect`s head above the mouthparts.
Mark Manders, a council worker from Nottingham, stumbled across the colourful insect while rock climbing in the Peak District in Derbyshire.
"It was so huge, I thought it was quite unusual. To see one that big, and I think it was laying eggs too,” Telegraph quoted him, as saying. "I was able to get my camera phone four inches away from it. In fact, if you look closely, the phone is reflected which makes it look like it has eyes. I think its face makes it look like a bear,” he added. Katharine Parkes, Conservation Officer of the British Dragonfly Society, said: "Southern Hawker is not a very good name for them now. We get records of them as far north as the Hebrides. We assume it`s because of climate change but can`t be sure. "Any garden pond can have about 20 to 30 of them, so when you think about the amount of ponds in the country, we`re talking a large population." ANI
