James Cameron defends remaking Titanic as 3D film

London: James Cameron has defended his decision to remake his film Titanic in 3D, insisting that it is entirely ‘valid’.

The 1997 film, which starred Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet won 11 Oscar awards. The new version will hit cinemas on April 6, 2012, to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Titanic setting sail on April 10, 1912. More than 300 production artists have worked for over 60 weeks to alter the film to 3D at a cost of 12 million pounds. “I think it’s perfectly valid . . . It just felt right in the centenary of the sinking of Titanic to bring this back out for fans who either are fans of the movie but have never had the widescreen experience or are fans of the movie who remember it from back then and want to re-experience that,” the Telegraph quoted Cameron has saying. The director has denied allegations that he is trying to ‘cash in’ and said that he has spoken with Winslet and she is ‘on board’. However, neither Winslet nor DiCaprio have seen the 3D footage yet.
