'Sister Act' to get a remake at Disney

Disney is planning a remake of their 1992 comedy hit "Sister Act".

Los Angeles: Disney is planning a remake of their 1992 comedy hit "Sister Act".

Some details of the project are still under wraps but it's said that Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah are set to write the script, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Kristen and Karen seem to be perfect choice to pen the female-driven comedy since their writing credits include some female-centric movies, including "Legally Blonde", "She's the Man" and "10 Things I Hate About You".

Allison Shearmur, who previously produced Disney live-action hit "Cinderella", is producing the remake of "Sister Act".

The original movie starred Whoopi Goldberg as Deloris, a Reno lounge singer, who disguised herself as a nun after her mobster beau (Harvey Keitel) committed a murder.

It spawned both a 1993 sequel, "Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit", and a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical that premiered in 2006. Though so, it is still unclear if Goldberg will return for the third movie.
The 1992 film from Disney's Touchstone Pictures also starred Maggie Smith. It earned USD 232 million worldwide and grossed close to USD 140 million domestically.
