New York: Kelly Preston has revealed that she gave up drinking to become a better mother to her and John Travolta’s daughter Ella Bleu, 12, and 18-month-old son Benjamin Hunter Kaleo.
As Travolta faces a media storm surrounding a number of sexual assault accusations that have surfaced within the week, wife Preston is focusing on her children.
“Our kids are the center of our universe,” the New York Daily News quoted Preston as saying in an interview on Lifetime’s “The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet” which aired on Thursday but was taped months before three men accused Travolta of sexual assault.
The 49-year-old actress said that her outlook on motherhood has changed ever since she gave birth to son Kaleo in November 2010.
“It’s different in that I’m so much wiser,” she said.
“I know myself so much more now,” she said.
Preston and Travolta’s eldest son, Jett, tragically died from a seizure in Jan. 2009.
“I’m so different, too,” the actress said.
“Now I don’t drink anymore. I don’t smoke anymore. I don’t do drugs anymore. All of those come with an ‘anymore.’ I used to do everything and a lot of everything.
“With drinking, I just decided that I wasn’t always at my best,” she explained.
“There were times where I drank too much, for sure,” she said.
Preston, who was once engaged to Charlie Sheen, said the decision to get sober was easy when she realized how much the positives outweighed the negatives.
“When I didn’t drink, I felt amazing, and I woke up feeling amazing every single day,” she said.
“For me, I find that our kids came in half the time to teach me about myself and to help me with others, and they have helped me so extraordinarily,” she added.
