Kolkata, June 02: Newly promoted I-League side
Shillong Lajong FC has appointed former East Bengal coach
Stanley Rozario as their chief coach for the 2009-10 season.
Rozario was named coach for the new outfit from Shillong
that made it to the top tier after finishing second in the
second division I-League.
Excited about the new role, Rozario said, "It`s a
challenge for me so I have taken up the role. It`s a very
strong side with a good base, something that impressed me. I
am looking forward to a good stint at Shillong," Rozario, who
was unceremoniously ousted as East Bengal coach, said.
A former Army coach and player, besides having served as
assistant to national coach Bob Houghton, Rozario was
appointed East Bengal coach on September 13 last year and was
sacked on December 24 after the Kolkata outfit lost to Mohun
Bagan in the Federation Cup semi-final.
After his ouster from East Bengal, Rozario took over as
Salgaocar coach and revived the Goan outfit`s fortunes by
guiding them to I-league second division win, which also
ensured them a return to the top tier of domestic league.
"My contract with Salgaocar has expired and I didn`t want
to continue," Rozario said, adding that he would go to Chennai
to spot talents for the Shillong side at the Santosh Trophy.
"We already have three foreigners, including Daniel
from Chirag United. We may sign a few promising players in
Chennai."
