New Delhi: Punjabi singer turned actor Diljit Dosanjh made his smashing debut in Bollywood with 'Udta Punjab' and even won several awards for it. The actor-singer's upcoming venture 'Soorma' is a sports biopic based on the life of hockey player Sandeep Singh. The film is directed by Shaad Ali and produced by Sony Pictures.
'Soorma' stars Diljit Dosanjh and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan took to Twitter and backed the film. He wrote: "To SOORMA, my best wishes .. to the director and friend Shaad; to my colleague Taapsee; to a bright talent and admirer of Diljit."

The film is set to hit the screens on July 13, 2018. It presents the story of international hockey player Sandeep Singh, who was paralyzed and used a wheelchair for two years after an accidental gunshot injured him in 2006.

Sandeep Singh made a comeback to international hockey in 2008. India won the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup under his captaincy and went on to qualify for the 2012 Olympics.
