Police detain J&K MLA Engineer Rashid for waving black flag ahead of Modi visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address two public rallies in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

Srinagar: Engineer Rashid, an independent MLA from Jammu and Kashmir, was detained by police on Saturday for waving black flags in the public ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit here.

Just two days ago, the police had questioned him in a similar case in Srinagar. Rashid has blamed Modi for the Gujarat massacre and the incidents of intolerance in the country.

Modi is expected to address two public rallies in the state on Saturday and also inaugurate the second phase of the Baglihar hydel project.

The administration has made elaborate security arrangements for his visit.

"The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 450 MW Baglihar Hydro Electric Project Stage-II, and lay the foundation stone for the 4-laning of the Udhampur-Ramban and Ramban-Banihal section of National Highway 44, at a function in Chanderkote, Ramban. He will also address the gathering there," an official said.
