The Indian skipper bowled two out of the last four overs. So South Africa couldn’t capitalise much on the century-partnership for the first wicket, as India bounced back to pick two quick wickets. The equation is quite simple now, we have one day remaining, India need eight wickets to win the Test, South Africa need 320 runs. It should be another fascinating day of Test cricket on the final day in Johannesburg. Alviro Petersen (b) Faf du Plessis (b) ================================================================ Over 40 || Score 130/2 India got the big fish – Hashim Amla – who was bowled by Mohammad Shami. Amla once again misjudged the line of the delivery as it pitched low and went onto to hit his off-stump. Amla has been bowled for the second time in the Test match after he was ducking. He cannot believe the way he has been dismissed again. India have struck twice in this session after a good start made by the hosts. Faf du Plessis is the new man in and Alviro Petersen is still batting with ease at the crease. HM Amla b Mohammed Shami 4 (13b) ================================================================ Over 35|| Score 118/1 Smith was the first batsman to be dismissed and Zaheer Khan had no role to play in his dismissal on this occasion. Smith worked one off Ashwin’s delivery towards mid-off, and ran for a suicidal single but Rahane’s accurate throw hit the stumps before the South African skipper could reach the non-striker’s end. Hashim Amla is the new man in and his wicket would be the key once again. Petersen is looking extremely confident at the moment and the hosts would want him to score a century and get them closer to that huge total. GC Smith run out 44 (73b) ================================================================ Over 30 || Score 107/0 The Indian seamers have failed to put the South African openers under any sort of pressure. In the 30th over, Smith worked Ishant Sharma’s short of length delivery through gully for a boundary that brought the century-partnership for the first wicket. The hosts couldn’t have asked for a better start and these two are slowly giving their side en edge over the visitors. India desperately searching for a breakthrough. ================================================================ Over 25 || Score 82/0 India continue to search for their first breakthrough. Smith and Petersen have grown in confidence and barring a few occasions, they have looked confident at the crease. These two have provided a solid platform to the hosts, something which was the need of the hour considering the kind of total they are chasing. Peterson has done the most of the scoring so far while Smith has been watchful. Ideal start for the hosts. They know how crucial this session is from South Africa’s perspective and just like India did, they too need to build in crucial partnerships to survive in the game. 17 runs scored in the last five overs, South Africa now need 421 runs to win the Test match. ================================================================ Over 5 || Score 20/0 Smith and Petersen have made a decent start for their side and have added 20 runs so far. The Indian seamers haven’t got much assistance from the wicket so far. ================================================================ India, 2nd Innings Over 120.4|| Score 421/10 India all out for 457! Shami was the last batsman to be dismissed as he was bowled by Tahir, who picked his second wicket of the match. After a brilliant show with the ball, Zaheer Khan played a superb cameo lower down the order where he also hit two sixes, one off Dale Steyn! Zaheer remained unbeaten on 29 off 31 balls and he has played a crucial role in getting India to a huge total. India now have a massive lead of 457 runs. Mohammed Shami b Imran Tahir 4 (5b) ================================================================ Over 115 || Score 385/8 India lost two more wickets of Ashwin and skipper Dhoni, both dismissed by Philander who has had a great Test match. Ashwin edged one to the keeper while Dhoni slammed a short ball that had width on offer straight to Elgan at deep cover. India now have a massive lead of 421 runs. Zaheer Khan and Mohammad Shami are the two new batsmen at the crease. It would be interesting to see when would MS Dhoni want to declare the innings. The Indian skipper is batting on 16 and Rahane was the last batsman to be dismissed. Dale Steyn’s 106th over conceded 4 runs and in the next over Duminy got his second wicket in form of Ajinkya Rahane. Off the second delivery of the 107th over, Rahane edged the ball towards the man at first slip who took a diving catch to send Rahane back to the pavilion. Dhoni added four runs in Kallis’ next by hitting the ball towards the rope. Duminy’s next was an expensive one, adding ten runs to the Indian total. The Indian skipper sweeped the ball for four runs, while Rahane in the next delivery, hit the ball behind point to add another four runs. Steyn came back into the attack in the 104th over. Rahane off the fifth delivery hit another boundary, this time with a straight drive. Four runs off the 105th over. ==================================================================================== Over 100 || Score 327/5 Virat Kohli lost the chance to score his century. He is out at 96. Off Duminy’s short- pitched delivery, he nicked the ball and AB did not miss the chance to take the catch. India have lost three wickets in quick succession. Skipper MS Dhoni joins Ajinkya Rahane at the crease. India lead by 363 runs. Duminy’s next over also got a single for the Indians. Kallis has struck again. After he was hit for a boundary by Rohit Sharma, right in the next delivery he caught him in the front. Sharma goes in the 98th over, bringing down India’s fourth wicket. Ajinkya Rahane joins Kohli. India lead by 361 runs. Sharma b Kallis 6 (13b, 1x4) ==================================================================================== Over 95 || Score 318/3 Jacques Kallis was introduced in the 91st over and this bowling changed worked for the hosts. They have finally managed a break-through in the 94th over. Kallis has taken an important wicket. Pujara is out at 153 runs. The ball was top-edged by Pujara to reachstraight to the wicket keeper. Rohit Sharma is the new man in. Kohli is at 91 runs. His form has been breath-taking. A brilliant feat for the young man. He has reached a score of 150 runs in Tests for the fourth time now. Philander’s next over is a maiden. The duo add two runs in the 89th over. The partnership continues to frustrate South Africa. The 90th is again a maiden over by Philander. South Africa desperately need wickets. ==================================================================================== Over 86 || Score 304/2 With the absence of Morne Morkel, it is going to be a tough task ahead for the Proteas bowlers. While Pujara is nearing 150, Kohli is steadily reaching 90s. Pujara hit two boundaries in Steyn’s 84th over. One was hit towards the ropes, past gully while the other one went through the covers. Philander conceded a maiden 86th over. ==================================================================================== Over 81 || Score 293/2 Imran Tahir began the proceedings for South Africa while Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli continued from the Indian camp. The last ball of Tahir’s over was hit for four by Pujara. He shot a lovely late cut and sent the ball towards the rope. JP Duminy continued from the other end conceding three runs in his over. Dale Steyn was introduced in the next over, with the new ball. The bowlers hope to put the new ball to full use to get India’s third wicket and break the Pujara-Kohli partnership. Steyn goes for a maiden 81st over. ==================================================================================== Day Three Round-up India, 2nd Innings Over 78|| Score 284/2 Stumps: 38 overs, 175 runs and no wickets. It has been a brilliant session and an even better day for the Indian team. Both Pujara and Kohli have batted exceptionally well, and it didn’t look like they were batting on a South African pitch. Pujara was unlucky in the first innings where he was run-out, but in the second, he made sure he proved a point that he is a class batsman on all sorts of wickets. He has been a massive run-machine in the Indian domestic circuit and the selectors would be delighted with his performance in the first Test so far. On the other hand, Kohli has once again played a flawless innings and it was good to see him slow down the pace of his innings while Pujara was scoring quickly.
