Mizoram CM Lal Thanhawla turns 79, skips celebration due to illness

Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla turned 79 on Friday but no celebrations were held as he is down with flu and high fever, officials from the chief minister's office said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Lal Thanhawla on the occasion.

"Wishing the Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lal Thanhawla on his birthday. I pray that he leads a long and healthy life," Modi tweeted.

The chief minister has been bed-ridden for the last two days and is being treated at his official residence, they said, adding that he is out of danger.

Lal Thanhawla is five-time chief minister of the state.
