Islamabad, Dec 02: Pakistan's main anti-corruption
office has arrested a senior interior ministry official on
corruption charges, officials said today.

Zia-ul-Islam, the No. 3 official at Pakistan's Interior
Ministry, was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau
(NAB) yesterday. He was likely to be produced before a judge
in Rawalpindi, a city near the capital Islamabad, said a
government official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Ul-Islam has been handling matters ranging from law and
order to political developments in the country for the past
six months.

No other details leading to his arrest were immediately
available.

President Pervez Musharraf, after seizing power in a
military coup in 1999, had set up nab to eliminate corruption.
NAB so far has arrested several politicians, contractors and
government officials for allegedly misappropriating government
