Google announced that it is planning to buy the New York City office building for $2.1 billion.
Google's Manhattan office
The company is planning to purchase the Saint John's terminal building in Hudson square levered in Manhattan. Ruth Porat, CFO of the company in a blog suggested that the purpose of the building would be to "serve as the anchor" of its new campus.
$2.1 billion deal
Google already leases the building and now plans to buy it for 2.1 billion dollars. This deal will be a positive sign for New York as the city is emerging from the pandemic. Google already has a large footprint in Manhattan.

Everybody thought that remote working is here to stay. Google is pointing at otherwise. With the purchase of a new office building, Google is planning to call employees back to the office.
Most expensive office deal
According to the Wall Street Journal, this purchase will be the most expensive deal for anyone in the US for a single office building since the covid-19 pandemic began.
Plans for recalling employees
Google has postponed their back to office dates until January. The CEO of the company previously mentioned that even after reopening, the company expects 20% of employees to continue telecommuting.
