Assam Floods In Pictures: 52 Lives Lost, 21 Lakh Impacted Across 29 Districts

With 52 confirmed deaths from flooding, the situation in Assam is dire. The second wave of flooding has affected about 21.13 lakh people in 29 districts. More than 55,000 people in three revenue circles have been impacted by the flooding caused by Brahmaputra and its tributaries in the Morigaon district.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the flood-affected areas of the state capital on Thursday and directed the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority to take appropriate measures to drain the flood water that had accumulated there.

The field director of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNP) reported that 31 wild animals have died as a result of the devastating floodwaters, bringing the total number of affected villages to 3,208. Official reports from Kaziranga National Park state that seven hog deer perished in care while 23 hog deer drowned in floodwaters.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) flood report states that six people have died in the state in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 52.

In 24 districts affected by flooding, the government has established 515 relief camps and distribution centres, housing over 3.86 lakh people. 11,20,165 animals were reportedly impacted by the flooding, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.

Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria visited the flood-affected Morigaon district on Thursday and spoke with residents of Bhuragaon village, according to a Raj Bhavan statement. After reviewing the current flood situation, he gave the district administration instructions to ensure appropriate relief measures are put in place.

The districts that have been impacted by flooding are as follows: Goalpara, Nagaon, Nalbari, Kamrup, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, South Salmara, Dhubri, Jorhat, Charaideo, Hojai, Karimganj, Sivasagar, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Dhemaji, Hailakandi, Golaghat, Darrang, Biswanath, Cachar, Kamrup (M), Tinsukia, Karbi Anglong, Chirang, Karbi Anglong West, Majuli.
