ISL-3: Match on schedule, have asked police to provide security, says Goa CM

Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Friday ended the suspense over the hosting of the Indian Super League (ISL) tie between FC Goa and FC Pune City in Fatorda on Saturday, saying he has spoken to the state police department and asked them to provide the required security.

"Security will be provided for the ISL match," Parsekar said, ending the suspense, after the Goa Police insisted that they were not in a position to provide manpower for the October 8 match, scheduled to be held here, in view of the upcoming BRICS meet which is scheduled to be held on October 15-16.

Police had maintained that they were already short-staffed due to BRICS-related sanitising and security procedures.

Parsekar said that since the match was pre-scheduled and in the interest of Goa, police had been directed to make manpower available to provide security cover for the event.
