Shanghai, April 11: Shiv Kapur will be hoping for a reversal of fortunes a la Jeev Milkha Singh when he tees off
in the 2-million-dollar Volvo China Open at the Shanghai
Silport golf club starting tomorrow. The 2002 Asiad gold medallist is going through a roller-coaster of a season with missed cuts and some decent finishes. He missed the cut in his last two appearances on Asian tour events at Singapore masters and TCL classic, which were also co-sanctioned with Europe. But he was tied second at Indonesia open in Jakara the week preceding the two events. Four other Indians who will be in action include Rahil Gangjee, who missed his berth to British open, Amandeep Johl, Gaurav Ghei and SSP Chowrasia. Volvo China open has happy memories for India with Jeev Milkha Singh having turned his whole career at this event last year. Jeev won it to break a seven-year winless record and then went on to win three more events and finish Asia no. 1 and in top-50 of the world. This year Jeev is playing in us the same week after making the cut in Augusta masters last week. Jyoti Randhawa, meanwhile, is skipping the event after having become a father for the first time. Local hero Zhang Lian-Wei will be hoping to steer his way to a second home triumph, having own here in 2003 earlier. The Volvo China Open celebrates its 13th edition this year with a record prize fund of us$2 million. The Shanghai Silport golf club returns as the host having previously staged the event from 1999-2004. Bureau Report
