China executes ex-police officer for homicide, corruption

Beijing,: A former top police officer was executed in China today after being convicted of homicide and corruption, authorities said.
Zhao Liping, 65, was executed after China's Supreme Court approved the sentence.
Zhao, who headed the police in Inner Mongolia for seven years until his retirement in 2012, was found guilty of murder, bribery and possession of firearms and explosives by a court in Taiyuan in November.
He was also found guilty of shooting dead a 26-year old woman in Chifeng in Inner Mongolia on March 20, 2015.
He took advantage of his post to secure business contracts and official positions for associates, and accepted bribes totalling 23.68 million yuan (USD 3.45 million) from 2008 to 2010, as the police chief of Inner Mongolia, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Zhao was also a deputy head of the regional People's Political Consultative Conference.
