Maharashtra Factories Act gets Presidential approval; women can work in night shifts

New Delhi/Mumbai: The proposed amendments to the Maharashtra Factories Act, 1948, has received the Presidential approval, thereby allowing women to work in factories in night shifts.
Earlier, section 66(1)(c) of the Factories Act provided that women cannot work at a factory between 7 PM and 6 AM. Now that has been done away with.
The managements will have to ensure security of women working in the night shift, the amendment provides.
Henceforth, flexible working hours will be an attractive option for young workers and will help women workers adjust themselves with their household duties.
