Matthew McConaughey reveals spicy details about his proposal to wife

New York: Matthew McConaughey has revealed that when he proposed to his girlfriend Camilla Alves last Christmas, the first words out of her mouth were not yes.

After getting down on one knee to ask longtime girlfriend to marry him, the 42-year-old actor faced a less-than-ideal situation, as Alves didn’t say yes – at least not at first. “During Christmastime we go around as a family and everyone gets their turn to open presents. I had wrapped the engagement ring in about eight different boxes deep so she’d have to keep opening boxes to get to it,” the New York Daily quoted McConaughey as saying on ‘The Tonight Show’. “And because we go around and swap out and take turns on who’s opening presents, she had to get skipped the last 15 times. She kept going, ‘Why can’t I open that present?’ And I said, ‘You have to wait til the end. Finally I get to her and I’m calling my family over ... and her eyes go wide and I take a knee and I said, ‘Will you marry me and take my name? “And the first words out of her mouth were not yes. No. There was not a yes, I’m not gonna say what it was, but I was like, ‘I’m down on one knee and I’ll stay here awhile, I’ll outlast you. She conceded,” he said. McConaughey and his 29-year-old girlfriend dated for six years before the ‘Fool’s Gold’ star popped the question. According to Us Weekly, the couple tied the knot at an intimate three-day Texas ceremony earlier this month, which involved 40 tents-worth of family and friends, noshing on sushi and a spread of crawfish, brisket and fried okra. “We’ve been living a married life for over six years now,” Alves told ET Canada in March. “We have homes together, we have family together, we have kids. We’ve built a life together. “So we’ve been living a married life this whole time,” she added. The couple has two children together, 3-year-old Levi and 2-year-old Vida. ANI
