New Delhi: Facebook is likely to evolve as a local marketplace with a dedicated  buying and selling community powered by Facebook Groups.

According to a Techcrunch report, Facebook recently did a small test of a 'Local Market' feature in its iOS app.

So, in future, if you would like to sell off your unwanted wardrobe or buy a used laptop, the classified advertisement like feature Local Market may help.

The report said that during the testing of the feature, instead of the 'messenger' button in the Facebook app's navigation bar, a 'market' button appeared that took users to a categorized location for buying and selling items.

The categories listed in the test were similar to those on a classified site: selling cars, furniture, antiques, electronics, clothing, books etc.

While the feature was only live for a short while, the marketplaces were already populated with plenty of items as the Local Market was able to pull in items that people put up for sale in local groups, a feature Facebook added earlier this year.

The test were carried out only in Melbourne and Sydney, Australia as well as Auckland, New Zealand.

It is not clear when would the feature be launched and whether it would be featured globally.
