New Delhi: Anti-narcotics sleuths have detained a Brazilian woman and an Afghani national for allegedly "swallowing" contraband capsules and acting as couriers for some high-quality party drugs during the new year in the national capital.
The two, apprehended a few days back, have been admitted to a government hospital here and till now they have ejected 65 and 90 capsules each.
"Both the swallowers do not look inter-connected as of now. We have detained both of them and investigations under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act are ongoing," NCB deputy director general RP Singh said here.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) identified the woman as J Da Silva (38) while the Afghanistan national has been recognised as M Qasem (50).
While Da Silva has ejected 65 capsules of cocaine till now and few more are expected to be extracted further, Qasem has ejected 90 capsules containing heroin after medical procedures, they said.
Officials said the duo will be arrested under NDPS laws once they are discharged from the hospital.
Both were apprehended at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here when they were arriving from Sao Paulo (Da Silva) and Herat (Qasem) respectively.
The NCB suspects that the duo were allegedly on contract to supply the costly party drugs to various new year parties being held in and around the national capital and is now on the hunt for their associates and contacts here, they said.
They said that the swallow method of drugs smuggling is not easy to detect as it is hard to identify any concealment inside the body.
The duo were apprehended based on some inputs and profiling techniques deployed by the sleuths of the agency in view of the ongoing party season to mark the new year, they said.
