KJo shocked to be offered the role of a wife beater in ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’

Bollywood director Karan Johar was bewildered when he was offered the role of a sex manic and wife beater husband of Priyanka Chopra in Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’. Buzz has it that Karan was horrified at the character he was offered to play by Vishal Bhardwaj, to which the former said a firm no. Finally, the role went to Irrfan Khan. Though Vishal did not contact Karan directly, he sent feelers through Priyanka.

Mumbai: Bollywood director Karan Johar was bewildered when he was offered the role of a sex manic and wife beater husband of Priyanka Chopra in Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’. Buzz has it that Karan was horrified at the character he was offered to play by Vishal Bhardwaj, to which the former said a firm no. Finally, the role went to Irrfan Khan. Apparently, after roping in writer-director Amole Gupte in ‘Kaminey’, Bhardwaj was keen to cast Karan Johar for one of the seven husbands of Priyanka Chopra in ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’. It is believed that had Karan been a part of the film, it would have been the most unusual casting. Though Vishal Bhardwaj did not contact Karan Johar directly, he sent feelers through Priyanka Chopra. Talking to a daily, a source said, “Vishal requested his heroine to put in a word. She promptly did. As soon as Karan heard about the casting offer, he was mighty amused initially. But then wondered how on earth he could essay a wife beater!” When enquired, KJo chuckled, “From what angle do I look like a wife-beater? And how could I enact a scene making love to Priyanka Chopra! And that too as a sex maniac! There is no way I could do this.”
