Kolkata: Singer Amit Kumar was not "unduly tense" to cut his first Ranbindra sangeet album 'Ebar Aamay Daakle Doore'.

"There was not an iota of tension about the singing though I knew there have been personalities like George (Debabrata) Biswas, Hemanta Mukhopadhyay, Dwijen Mukhopadhyay who are Rabindrasangeet exponents," Amit Kumar said after launching his first Rabindra Sangeet album here.

"I was scared about the audience response to 'Ebar Aamay Daakle Doore'. I still am. I am hopeful it will become a hit. Recording a Rabindra Sangeet album is a peak in one's singing career," he said.

Veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who attended the launch, said, "His mother (Ruma Guha Thakurta) being such a gifted singer, he should have inherited the skill both from father and mother's side. He should have done a Rabindrasangeet album years back."

Recalling the day when his father Kishore Kumar rendered the playback for Soumitra Chatterjee in Satyajit Ray's "Charulata", Amit Kumar said, "While Soumitra kaku gave lips to 'Ektuku Chhoya Lage' a Tagore composition sung by Baba in the film in 1964, I sang for a Bengali film for the first time almost a decade later".
