Tarun Tahiliani is not a man of words but action. His creations have made ripples not only in India but also around the world in exclusive stores as well as in his own studios. Tarun’s brand is known to be of high style and flawless sensibility. His studio produces bridal trousseaus, exclusive eveningwear for women and men`s line. He is a name to reckon with in the industry and no show is complete without his presentation. Shashank Chouhan of spicezee.com catches up with the ace designer before the Couture Week in Delhi. Excerpts: Tarun Tahiliani shows his collection in Mumbai on Saturday» Shashank: First things first: Your reaction to the formation of Fashion Council of India… Tarun: I don`t care too much about all this. All I have to say is more bodies mean more dissipation. Shashank: Why couldn`t FDCI convince the government for joining hands, rather than going solo? Tarun: FDCI does not have as great a voice as it used to. Too much infighting and pettiness have weakened its collective voice and moral authority. Weak leadership is to blame for the mess. Shashank: These seem to be bad times for the fraternity what with Sumeet Nair having his own plans and the whole controversy that started it all… Tarun: Keeps silent indicative of ‘next question’. Shashank: Will you be showcasing creations at both FDCI and Sumeet`s events? If yes, will both exhibits be different or similar? Tarun: I am not showcasing at Sumeet’s event this time. Shashank: Coming to the couture week, do you think there is enough couture clientele to have a separate fashion week for it in India? Tarun: Yes, certainly. Shashank: What is your choice for an ideal fashion week- prêt or couture? Tarun: Well, ideally: both Shashank: What kind of designs are we going to see from your stable? Classic Indian or western or what? Tarun: A ménage as always! Shashank: At the Wills Fashion Week you didn`t get any celeb friend of yours (like Shilpa Shetty in 2007) to don your creations. How about the couture week? Tarun: Of course I am going to get somebody. (Keeps the ‘who’ as a surprise….) Shashank: What are the trends this season? The colours and fabric et al? Tarun: Am not very trendy! Shashank: What kind of response did you get from the Wills Fashion Week this year? Tarun: Excellent is the word, really. Shashank: You seem to have mastered the art of presenting Indian styles…but do the westerners dig it? Tarun: I don`t care about the westerners- I don`t live for their endorsement at all. They did in fact, like it. Shashank: I loved the Greek inspired toga dress you presented at the Wills Fashion Week this March. How far do your influences go? Tarun: Ah well, I just love draping…
