Fruits and vegetables

Not just carrots, but also eat a nutritious diet rich in fruits and vegetables - dark leafy greens, sprouts, nuts, oranges and citrus fruits.

Omega-3 fatty acids

Make sure that you include fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, tuna, and halibut. Studies have found that omega-3 fatty acids, in particular, may benefit eye health.

Healthy weight

Stay physically active to avoid being overweight or obese that can increase your risk of developing diabetes and other systemic conditions, which can lead to vision loss.

Quit smoking

Just as smoking is bad for the rest of your body, it is bad for your eyes too. Smoking has been linked to an increased risk of developing age-related macular degeneration, cataract, and optic nerve damage.

UV protection

Remember, looking directly at the sun can damage your eyes as a result of too much ultraviolet light flooding the retina, leading to blindness in extreme cases. Always wear UV protective sunglasses or sports goggles specially designed to provide the accurate protection for a certain activity.

Eye washing

Splash your face and eyes with fresh water say 10-15 times, every morning and repeat the same in the evening. Doing this may help soothe worn-out, tired eyes by increasing moisture and circulation. However, do not use icy cold or hot water on your eyes.

Adequate sleep

Getting proper sleep every night can help replenish your eyes with essential nutrients as well as function properly. Sleep deficiency can cause eye fatigue, which include tired, itching and burning eyes.

Regular eye exams

Eye exams at every age and life stage are important to help keep your vision strong. Regular sight checks are not just important to improve the quality of your eyesight, but can help with early detection of conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration which could lead to sight loss.
