London: A former bandmate of Tom Jones has opened up about the mentor on the `Voice` before he became a big name.As a young wannabe in 1960s London, the 72-year-old musician had tried to persuade a prostitute to quit the streets and change her life but ended up bedding her instead.
At the time the Jones was living with his band The Senators in a flat in Notting Hill.
Then there was a time when Jones even contemplated suicide after the band`s manager said that there was no money for him.he hungry band members even hit on a ruse to enable them to eat out for free. Vernon Hopkins explained that they used to pass the same Indian restaurant every time they went out, and one evening one of the band members decided to go in and check it out. Hopkins returned and told the band that the toilet window was open and was big enough for them to scrape through and into the alley behind. So the band members went inside and ordered their meals, and after having their meals bolted out.
