  • Air Vice Marshal RGK Kapoor: 

    * On February 27, at around 1000hrs, IAF radars detected a large number of PAF jets heading towards Indian territory. They breached Indian airspace west of Rajouri. IAF fighters were tasked to intercept intruding Pakistan aircraft. PAF jets attempted to target our military installations but IAF jets intercepted them. PAF bombs fell in Indian territory but were unable to cause damage.

    * A PAF F-16 jet was shot down and it crashed in PoK. A MiG-21 also crashed and its pilot ejected safely but in PoK.

    * Pakistan has made several incorrect statements. They said 3 IAF jets were shot down but was later revised to 2 jets. Pakistan later changed statement to say one IAF pilot was in their custody.

    * Secondly, Pakistan claimed they intentionally dropped bombs in open spaces. Fact is they targeted military installations and were intercepted by IAF jets. They were unable to cause any significant damage to our military installations due to a swift response.

    * There is enough evidence to show that F-16s were used in this mission through their electronic signatures. Parts of AMRAAM, air to air missile which is carried only on the Pakistani F-16s was recovered east of Rajouri within the Indian territory.

    When asked if Pakistan PM Imran Khan and PM Modi will talk, the sources said, "Immediate, credible and verifiable action against terror is required before any such conversation. Imran Khan should now walk the talk on dealing with terrorism. That is our message to Pakistan and International community."

    The airspace violation comes hours after Pakistan's ceasefire violation with mortars earlier in the early morning hours. It once again opened fire after around 1 pm. The enemy forces fired mortars across the Line of Control in the Krishna Ghati sector. 

  • "We believe that the Pakistan air intrusion was an attack on military installations. We believe that the Indian Air Force Pilot was ill treated by the Pakistan Army in violation of the Geneva convention," Defence Ministry Officials tell news agency ANI.

    "We believe that the Pakistan Army is actively supporting the Jaish-e-Mohammed and is harbouring the leaders including Masood Azhar in its facilities," sources added.

    Navy and Coast Guard are both patrolling the seas with increased strength in vessels. Authorities are also checking fishing trawlers' documents.

    Security agencies have been asked to be extra cautious and alert with the stealth submarines of Pakistan which may try to operate within Indian territory.

  • "Concerned about deteriorating situation in Kashmir. Strongly condemn terrorist attack on February 14 for which Islamic extremist group 'Jaish-e-Mohammad' claimed responsibility; urge Pakistan to take stronger measures to counter terrorism," Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono. 

    "In response to the mounting tension due to the operations since 26 February between the Indian Air Force and the Pakistan Air Force, Japan strongly urges India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and stabilize the situation through dialogue," he added.

  • An emergency has been imposed at administrative levels in Pakistani city Karachi. The emergency does not apply to the general public, but for the administrators to take precautions for the residents of Karachi.

  • Pakistan violates ceasefire Thursday morning in Krishna Ghati sector along the Line of Control in Poonch district. The Indian Army retaliated immediately. The cross firing stopped around 7 am.

  • The US State Department asks India and Pakistan to cease all cross-border military activity and work on returning to stability. It further urged both sides to take immediate steps to de-escalate the situation, including direct communication. 

    "Cross-border terrorism, such as recent attack on India’s CRPF, poses grave threat to security of the area. We reiterate our call for Pakistan to abide by its United Nations Security Council commitments to deny terrorists safe haven and block their access to funds," US State Department tells ANI. The PM held back-to-back meetings with the chiefs of the armed forces, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other top officials throughout the day as tensions escalated with border nation Pakistan.   • Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA) issue statement supporting the government.

    "ICPA being a patriotic and responsible union would like to extend complete support and co-operation in all operations as the situation demands. We will support the government and the PMO in this fight against terrorism.

    "We, as Air Indians take pride and feel duty bound towards national interest and pledge our support to the Nation and as pilots we consider ourselves as the second line of defense after the armed forces to serve our country," the association said in a statement. 

  • The Defence Ministry on Wednesday evening confirmed that all six occupants of an ill-fated Mi-17 V5 helicopter which crashed earlier in the day in J&K's Budgam have died. The helicopter crashed at around 1010 hours near Budgam. Read more. 

  • Jammu and Kashmir: All schools within a range of five Kilometers of the international border and the Line of Control (LoC) will remain closed on Thursday as per orders of District Development Commissioner. High alert has also been sounded across the state. 

  • In a big win for India, the United States, Britain and France proposed that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) blacklist the head of Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), which was involved in attacking an Indian paramilitary convoy in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on February 14.   • A quick recap of the events of February 26 and 27:

    * On February 26, 12 Indian Air Force Mirage 2000 fighter jets crossed the LoC and destroyed a number of terror camps. Over 300 terrorists were killed in the action

    * A rattled Pakistan attempts to retaliate on February 27. A number of Pakistani fighter jets took off simultaneously at 0950hrs and began gathering over northern Pakistan in an attempt to attack Indian targets in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian radar systems capture the simultaneous activity at different Pakistani air bases in Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Islamabad.

     

    Indian Air Force's Air Defence Network was activated immediately and MiG-21 and Sukhoi-30 fighter jets were scrambled from Awantipora and Srinagar as the intrusion from Pakistan Air Force occurred in the Naushera sector. It is reported that three PAF jets entered Indian airspace and were confronted by IAF's MiG-21.

    Both nations shot down each other's warplanes and breached airspace for the first time since 1971. India shot down a PAF F-16, while Pakistan destroyed an MiG aircraft. MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar later confirmed "In this engagement, we have unfortunately lost one MiG 21. The pilot is missing in action."

    India later slammed Pakistan for the vulgar display of the injured IAF personnel and demanded that he be handed back safely. India also summoned Pakistan's deputy high commissioner while PM Narendra Modi held a meeting with the three chiefs of the armed forces.

    Across the border, Imran Khan addressed his nation and said that PAF action was only in retaliation to IAF raids from a day earlier. He renewed his offer for peace but maintained silence on terrorism - the core problem and menace.

NEW DELHI: Pakistan has denied F16 fighter jets were used when PAF aircraft crossed into Indian airspace - a lie that was nailed by the Indian Air Force on Thursday. This was shortly after an under-pressure Imran Khan announced that the IAF pilot in Pakistan's custody would be released.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan fighter jets once again attempted to enter the Indian airspace but were thwarted back. Pakistan's ground forces have continued to violate ceasefire along the LoC. The Indian armed forces, in a briefing, said that the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy is absolutely ready against any Pakistani adventurism.
