Arvind Kejriwal govt to regularise Delhi's unauthorised colonies

In a big development, the government of Delhi has started registration of properties in unauthorised colonies.

New Delhi: In a big development, the government of Delhi has started registration of properties in unauthorised colonies.

Addressing the press, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that registry will begin from April 01. He also said that the demarcation work in unauthorised colonies have started.

What this means is people living in these colonies will now be able to get 'registry' as ownership document.

So far, 'power of attorney' was the only document which residents living in these colonies could obtain.

There are about 2,000 unauthorised colonies in the national capital and around 40 percent of the city's total population resides here.

The Union Cabinet had in December 2014 cleared a proposal to amend existing guidelines for regularisation of unauthorised colonies. It had also extended the cut-off date for unauthorised colonies eligible for regularisation from March 31, 2002 to June 1, 2014.
