Salman Khan shuns ‘silly cameo’ appearances for fans’ sake

Mumbai, Mar 12: Salman Khan said a loud and assertive ‘no’ to his favourite directors – Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Sooraj Barjatya. Considering the fact that these two directors have been instrumental in launching Salman’s career, it was a reckless thing to do on Sallu’s part. But pompous Sallu, whose career is nose-diving, could not care less. He said he would be doing ‘gaddari’ to his die-hard fans if he accepts silly cameo appearances.Sanjay Leela Bhansali had approached Salman for a special appearance in ‘Heera Mandi’, an ambitious project based on a location Heera Mandi in northwest corner of the walled city of Lahore, next to Roshni Gate. The actor refused outright and asked Bhansali to meet him next time when he had a full fledged role. It should be remembered that the actor had earlier done a cameo in ‘Saawariya’. Another director, Sooraj Barjatya of ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ fame also approached him with a role in his upcoming flick but according to sources, the actor refused outright. According to a source, “Sooraj told him that the role he intended to give Sallu was not that of the main lead but that of one of the characters in the film. And Salman was not impressed with the role offered to him and said no straight off. He also told Sooraj that come what may in his career, he would never do silly character roles.” “He feels that if he did so, he would be betraying his fans as they still want him to do the main leads," a news daily quoted as source as saying. Well, the impulsive decision to say no to the famous directors was not wise on Sallu’s part, whose films have been flopping one-by-one. The actor should consider himself rather lucky to even get cameo offers!
