New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Army Chief Dalbir Singh Suhag joined the nation in praying for Lance Naik Hanumanthappa, who miraculously survived below 25 feet of snow on the icy slopes of Siachen Glacier.

Army Chief Dalbir Singh was the first to reach Army's Research and Referral Hospital in the national capital after Hanumanthappa was flown in from Siachen.

Later, Prime Minister Modi himself made a visit to the hospital and discussed the brave soldier's health condition with doctors at the hospital.

The PM was at the ICU where the Lance Naik is battling for life. Media reports said that he wanted to know all about the line of treatment being administered to Hanumanthappa.

The PM tweeted:

Modi's surprise visit has created a lot of warmth in the army fraternity as it is for the first time that a PM has made such an unannounced visit to the hospital to enquire about the health of an injured soldier.

Meanwhile, Betadur village in Karnataka's Dharwad district is celebrating their brave son's miraculous escape from the icy slopes of Siachen.

One of Hanumanthappa's relatives said, “We are all very happy, God has helped us. He is named after Hanuman, he trumped death.”

The entire nation stands in prayer with Hanumanthappa's 62-year-old mother Basamma, his wife Mahadevi and his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter that he pulls through in the battle for life.
