Lalu hits out at PM Modi, calls him an 'NRI'

RJD chief and former union minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as an NRI (Non-Resident Indian).

Patna: RJD chief and former union minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing him as an NRI (Non-Resident Indian).

Apparently referring to PM Modi's frequent international tours and his bid to connect with the Indian diaspora, Lalu said Modi had now become an NRI and that the media was also happily portraying his popularity in foreign countries when there is trouble at our borders.

The Bihar politician was seeking to highlight the fact that Modi has been touring foreign countries when both China and Pakistan have been trying to breach peace at borders through incursions and firing.

Lalu is not the first opposition figure who has hit out at the PM over his foreign tours and popularity.

Congress leader and former union minister Salman Khurshid had also, on Sunday, questioned the presence of large crowds at PM Modi's events abroad. Khurshid expressed doubts over the genuineness of the crowds, claiming people were flown from India to cheer for him.

"It is easy to gather a crowd and give speeches. If you don't believe me, check flight tickets," Khurshid reportedly said.
