Suspected terrorists spotted in J&K`s Kathua district

Two days after twin terror attacks killed 12 people in Jammu and Kashmir, including an Army officer and jawans, suspected terrorists were spotted in Kathua district on Saturday morning.

Jammu: Two days after twin terror attacks killed 10 people in Jammu and Kashmir, including an Army officer and police jawans, suspected terrorists were spotted in Kathua district on Saturday morning.

The suspects were spotted in Dayalachak area in Kathua by locals, and state police and Army carried out a joint search operation there.

The suspected terrorists were believed to have entered a school in Pathwala village and security forces conducted a check on the facility but did not find anything.

Security forces launched search and cordon operation after some villagers claimed they have sighted some terrorists in Army uniforms in Dayalachak area of Kathua district this morning, DIG, Jammu-Kathua range, Shakeel Ahmed Beigh said.

The Jammu-Pathankote National Highway has been sealed and a high alert has been sounded in Kathua and adjoining areas, he said.

"As soon as we received the information, police, CRPF, Army and other intelligence agencies are on high alert and launched search and combing operation in the area", Beigh said.

"Till now we have not seen any suspects but the combing operation is still going on in the area", he said.

Reports of firing by militants in Government School Chirkh between Dayalachak and Hiranagar in Kathua have been found to be false, district officials said.

Red alert had been sounded in the Jammu region following Thursday`s strikes.

Security was also beefed up outside different Army camps and police headquarters.

Three terrorists were killed in the counter operations on Thursday.
