Bhopal: With the onset of summer, Bhopal
Police are running an exercise to educate two-wheeler riders,
including women not to cover their face with scarves or cloth,
and instead wear a proper helmet.

A circular in this regard issued by the Police
Headquarters (PHQ) on March four, has nothing to do with the
moral policing or inter-community marriages, Inspector General
of Traffic Police K L Meena said today.

He said they pass circulars from time to time to ensure
that the traffic rules were followed and denied reports that
it was done whenever a Hindu girl elopes with a Muslim boy in
Bhopal.

Asked that similar drive had turned out to be a damp
squib after an inter-community marriage took place in 2007 in
Bhopal which was opposed by girl`s family members who were
joined in by right wing organisations, the IG said it has
nothing to do with it.

"Why the two-wheeler riders are seen sporting scarves and
cloth on their face during night when the weather turns
pleasant," he said.

Meena said the Bhopal police were just educating the
people not to cover their face instead wear helmets.

"We are only getting the cloth of suspected persons
removed. We are promoting the use of helmets and nothing
should be read into it," Bhopal Senior Superintendent of
Police Adarsh Katiyar said.

"This has nothing to do with the moral policing". We
want people to wear helmets in accordance with Motor Vehicle
Act," the SSP said.
