Mumbai, Jan 07: An all airlines bandh has been planned to press the government for withdrawal of tax on free passages.

Mumbai, Jan 07: An all airlines bandh has been
planned to press the government for withdrawal of tax on free
passages.

Representatives of Air-India, Indian Airlines, domestic
and foreign airlines in India, at a meeting yesterday decided
on a common plan of action "to protest against the unfair and
unjust tax imposed upon airline employees", George Abraham,
Air-India employees guild and convenor for the apex body of
union of all airlines in India, said in a statement here
today.

Abraham said the apex body, formed to fight the "unjust
decision" and take up issues of common interest in future,
would meet again on January 11 to decide the day and date of
the all airlines bandh.

He said airline representatives have expressed resentment
over the government decision to levy tax on free passages but
exempt railway employees from paying tax on their passages.

This is despite the fact that the railway employees are
entitled to confirmed passages as against the "subject to
availability" (of seats) passages of airline employees, he
added.
