Srinagar, Aug 16: The Amarnath pilgrimage, suspended for a day, resumed today with over 1200 devotees arriving at base camps in Kashmir from Jammu as a pilgrim was killed in a
landslide pushing the toll due to natural causes in the
on-going yatra to 21.
A fresh batch of 1,201 pilgrims, including 163 women, 12
children and 70 sadhus, which left Jammu early this morning in
56 vehicles, arrived at the base camps in Pahalgam and Baltal
this evening, official sources said.
The pilgrimage was suspended yesterday as landslides
blocked the track leading to the shrine between Baltal
and Nunwan.
The sources said as many as 1,03,078 pilgrims had offered
prayers at the shrine so far.
A pilgrim from Haryana, Lakhveer Dev Singh, was killed in
a landslide near Brarimarg on Baltal-Amarnath route last
evening.
Arrangements in connection with the arrival of "chhari mubark", holy mace of Lord Shiva, were reviewed at a meeting here.
