District and sessions judge R P Mishra on Wednesday rejected Ghaziabad Police's application for obtaining a second police remand of Vikas Yadav, son of Rajya Sabha member D P Yadav, and his cousin Vishal Yadav, accused in the Nitish Katara kidnapping and murder case.

In his order the district judge said the chief judicial magistrate had already denied extension of police remand, which was granted earlier for 24 hours.

Mishra said granting police remand was only within the jurisdiction of a magistrate.

According to police, the Yadav duo allegedly confessed during interrogation that they along with one Sukhdev Yadav had kidnapped Katara from a marriage party and later bludgeoned him to death over his affair with their sister.

Police also claimed to have recovered the hammer used in the crime at the instance of Vikas.
